¡Felicidades, Cecilia!

Visiting MIT for the fall semester, Cecilia concluded her experience here on the week of Thanksgiving. She will return to her home institution of CIEMAT to begin work on her thesis after 3 months of great physics and memorable experiences. She had been collaborating with our own Qier on a differential measurement of the fragmentation fraction of B mesons to strange and up quarks, and decided to spend some time with our group in Cambridge to have the chance to work more closely with the group (and, of course, enjoy the famous New England autumns!). The analysis aims to reach better precision using Run 3 data, which can leverage bigger-than-ever datasets thanks to the unprecedented luminosity achieved by the LHC, and unique low-momentum muon triggers that can push this measurement to below 10 GeV. Her stay with us concluded with a lot of work being done in analyzing data from Run 3 — we look forward to the results coming out next year!

Her time at MIT wasn’t all hard work — we made sure she was introduced to the real MIT graduate student experience: hunting for free food, student seminars, social events, and many coffee runs! We were also lucky to be able to pick up some PPC souvenirs from Prof. Jerome Friedman’s office. She even managed to inspire some of us to go for an after-work group swim and get our exercise in! Her humor cheered up the office everyday, and she left as a friend (and a ‘bro’) to everyone in the group 🙂

We have really appreciated having you here, and best of luck with everything, Cecilia!
