The LHC is facing a serious issue because last night at around 1am (CERN time), an electrical perturbation (likely the cause) caused several magnet to quenched and the IP8 cold compressor to trip. The Inner Triplet L8 insulation vacuum was lost after the quench, probably a leak between the cold mass and the insulation vacuum (the later is under investigation).
After today’s investigations, while we do not have yet the full picture, we should be prepared for a long interruption meaning several weeks.
