In our recent analysis of rare decays for B mesons to dimuons we show that CMS can even with worse momentum resolution compete with the LHCb collaboration in the rare B decay arena. What we are missing in track momentum resolution we are making up in terms of number of events recorded and analyzed.
This analysis was a tour de force starting from major re-writes in the muon reconstruction, the trigger and the overall analysis strategy. This is certainly a highlight of our results. Dmytro Kovalskyi presented this result for the first time at ICHEP 2022 and it was coined a ‘Hot Topic’ in the CERN courier report of the conference. Apart from being covered as an internal CMS news it also scheduled to appear separately in the CERN Courier and the publication should be out any day now.
And here are Dima and me at the conference in Bologna; a beautiful town in Italy. Dima led the analysis team in CMS and gave the presentation at the ICHEP 2022 conference. What a wonderful result!
