The community of High Energy Physicists comes together usually every three years in form of the International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA) and goes through a seminar on “Future Perspectives in High Energy Physics”. This year was special for a…
Ludovico, mostly referred to as Ludo, arrived in Cambridge on June 1, 2023 and worked on his master thesis, in which he searched for dark photons in the low mass range from 1 to 10 GeV. This analysis uses our…
The NUPAX division in the Physics Department at MIT seeks to make a new junior faculty appointment. Make sure to tell people of our search. It is an open search but we will be looking very hard for a new…
November 1, 2023 was the day that our own Nergis Mavalvala, our Dean came to CERN for the first time. Bolek the director of the Laboratory for Nuclear Science had invited her and she accepted, curious as we learned during…
The Year End Technical Stop or for the LHC experts YETS is in effect as of today (October 30, 2023). The year has finished with an exciting Heavy Ion run which started slow but eventually picked up the pace and…
Run 2 results attracted significant interest in heavy flavor physics at the LHC. The highlights of these findings include a 3-sigma discrepancy in the decay rate of the B meson into charm mesons with either a muon or a tau,…
Problem set number 7 in Classical Mechanics at MIT included one problem which required the use of our A2rchi installation. With over 600 students asking questions and doing so of course only the evening on which the problem set was…
The message is out we are committed to host the 2nd Annual US FCC workshop here at MIT. Come and enjoy! The message Dear Colleagues, We hope you will join us for the 2nd annual US FCC Workshop at MIT…
The LHC program for this year will be concluded with one month of Heavy Ion (PbPb) collisions. It enables us to study the properties of matter in extreme conditions (a trillion times denser than the core of the sun) and…
The main event of my visit to CERN, Offline Software and Computing Week (indico), concluded with many useful discussions regarding the present and future of CompOps and in particular the Production and Reprocessing team (P&R), one of the teams under…
