The June Council Session at CERN, characterized by intense discussions and updates from diverse areas of the scientific programme, just concluded. Among the notable outcomes was the approval of the Medium-Term Plan (MTP) for 2026–2030. This important document outlines CERN’s scientific and financial strategy for the upcoming years.
A central focus of the MTP is to ensure the secure allotment of resources needed for the successful, safe, and timely completion of key projects. These include the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) upgrade, Phase 2 upgrades of the ATLAS and CMS experiments, and work related to the Long Shutdown 3 (LS3).
Members of the CERN community are invited to gather further insights about the June Council Session at a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 2 July, from 10.30 a.m. to 12 noon. This gathering will take place in the Science Gateway.
“… and and appointed the senior leadership team for 2026–2030, as proposed by the Director-General designate, Professor Mark Thomson.” And in there it says … Director for Research and Computing: Gautier Hamel de Monchenault … who is of course the our, CMS’, spokes person. This has never happened before as far as I can remember and we will have to see how the collaboration will deal with this.
Big Congratulations to Gautier for this exciting job!
