Bengali New Year – Welcome 1433

Last night colleagues at Fermilab invited me to a Bengali New Year celebration. If you don’t know–I cetainly did not– India’s state West Bengal (April 15) and Bangladesh (April 14) base their time on a solar system initiated during Mughal times in the Gregorian calendar, so we are back in 1433 Bangabda (Bongabda).

Mohammad, Bengali by birth, had the brilliant idea to have a New Year’s celebration and quickly got together a good crowd. He found a very close Indian restaurant, that nobody had tried before …. The result: the impromptu dinner party led to wonderful and very diverse conversations, spectacular food, and a wonderful memory captured in this great picture.
